Should I STOP doing midweek rehearsals? (5 things to consider)

We have a weekly midweek rehearsal on Thursday evenings to prepare for the upcoming Sunday morning service, but there are times when we don’t have a rehearsal because of a holiday or too many people out or something like that. Even when we don’t have a midweek rehearsal, the service still turns out well, which sometimes makes me question whether we really need the Thursday rehearsal at all. But I always come to the conclusion that the midweek rehearsal needs to stay.

Here are the 5 things to consider regarding the importance of your midweek rehearsal:

  1. The midweek rehearsal is WHY you’re so comfortable
  2. Introducing new songs becomes really difficult
  3. Introducing new team members also becomes difficult
  4. You’re not growing when you’re playing out of your overflow
  5. A midweek rehearsal is GOOD for community

I found this blog post by Jon Nicol of worshipteamcoach.com regarding the importance of a midweek rehearsal, but he also includes towards the bottom five tips to make the most of “Sunday morning only” rehearsals:
